1. What is SXANDV for? What is it not for?

SXANDV is for the posting of Spike/Xander slash fanfiction and fanart.

SXANDV is not for discussion, feedback, posting of stories that are not Spike/Xander slash, announcement of new lists (unless their central theme is Spike/Xander slash), conventions, or other fan-related activities that don't -- say it with me -- center around Spike/Xander slash.

****************************

2. What kinds of fan material may be posted on SXANDV?

Spike/Xander slash stories of any rating can (and should!) be posted to the list. Stories may contain other pairings, including Spike/other, Xander/other, and other/other, as long as the story is primarily Spike/Xander. All ratings and all genres including chanslash (underage fic) are accepted. Pre-slash (stories which help set up a slash relationship between the characters, but don't actually contain that relationship yet) is acceptable if it's labeled as such, so both the moderator and the readers know that there will be Spike/Xander slash eventually, whether later in the story, or in a sequel. Crossovers are encouraged, as are Alternate Universes. As long as there are recognisable S/X characters in the story who are or become involved with each other, it is accepted on SXANDV.

Links to online S/X stories and fanart can be posted. Announcements and calls for submissions for S/X fanzines can be posted. (Not zines that happen to contain a Spike/Xander story. Zines where *all* of the stories are Spike/Xander.)

Spike/Xander fanart and zine fliers may also be uploaded directly to the Files section of SXANDV, through the Yahoo Groups interface. Any files deemed inappropriate or off-topic will be deleted by the moderator. If the Files section becomes full, the oldest files will be deleted by the moderator until the Files section is half-full. In both cases, an attempt will be made to inform the listmember beforehand, unless the uploaded file is obviously spam, or grossly inappropriate.

3. What kinds of fan material may NOT be posted on SXANDV?

No RPS (real person slash) stories may be posted. Due to the potential for serious legal issues, RPS is not allowed on SXANDV. This means: no stories about the actors; just about the characters.

No discussion is allowed on the list. No feedback, questions, requests, challenges, introductions, or other off-topic messages may be posted to the list. No announcements for zines or conventions if they do not center on the topic of Spike/Xander slash. No website update announcements, please, unless they're included in the header notes of a posted story.

If your post does not contain some form of "here is S/X slash fiction/fanart" then it is off-topic. Off-topic posts are not allowed. Therefore, if you find yourself starting to type "OT" in your header? Stop right there.

If you have any question about the acceptability of your post, please email the listowner at SXANDV- owner@yahoogroups.com and ask!

4. What are the requirements and format for posting?

SXANDV List requirements for posting:

A) Post in text-only format. No html, no Word documents, no fancy whatever. This is general netiquette, and a good rule for all persons posting stories to lists. (Because I will check my list mail from a linux server, using ELM, if necessary, so I can bitch about stories I can't read!)

B) Warnings for content are ONLY required for: main character death if the death(s) is permanent, and non-consensual sex, if it is described graphically. ("Warning: Character death" or "Warning: non-con" is sufficient, though you're welcome to be more specific.)

If your story would be irrevocably spoiled by the inclusion of either warning, you may post a link to the story, instead. Readers should bear in mind that any story linked to instead of posted on-list may -- or may NOT -- contain items that would require warnings in a posted story.

Authors are welcome to use warnings for anything else, but they are not required. If you post a story with content that you know will upset someone, and they get upset and tell you about it, and you didn't put in a warning, deal with it. Either use warnings, or enjoy the flames.

Readers - caveat lector! Reader beware. Sneak a peek at the ending, email the author, ask someone who's read it if you aren't sure it's safe. Or delete it; no one's making you read it.

C) It is highly suggested that you use a disclaimer to indicate that you have no legal claim to the characters and situations which are copyrighted by other persons and institutions.

D) Rate your story: G, PG, PG-13, PG-15, R, NC-17, X, M, MA, whatever seems appropriate. The reason for this is - some of us read at work, and really don't need to page down to graphic sex scenes right when our managers have walked up behind us to say "what are you doing?"

5. Are minors allowed to subscribe to SXANDV?

SXANDV is a list which may contain ADULT material. Minors should NOT subscribe. Age statements are now required by the listowner -- however, the listowner denies any responsibility for policing the personal access of its members. (What this means is, underage members who have lied about their age whether openly or by ommission, are the responsibility of their guardians, not the listowner. If you don't want your kids here, tell them. Not us.)

****************************

6. What do I do if someone sends me feedback I don't like?

SXANDV encourages the sending of feedback to authors and artists. The list is set to reply to sender, not to the list, thus making it very easy to send Letters of Comment. ALL REPLIES ARE, THEREFORE, PRIVATE. The listowner is not responsible for, or privy to, and does not have any authority over, the content of feedback sent in response to material posted to SXANDV. However, if you encounter abuse from a fellow SXANDV member, you are welcome to contact the listowner privately, and explain the issue. You must be prepared to back up your claims with evidence (save your flames and include headers). Chances are, you will be told to place the flamer into a killfile. Only under extreme and repeated circumstances will a listmember be kicked for flaming - because they can always re-subscribe under a different name so it's really rather pointless. The only thing that makes them give up and go away is to ignore them.

****************************

7. Is there an archive for SXANDV?

There is currently no archive for SXANDV. We encourage you to submit your stories to The Buffy Fiction Archive at http://archive.shriftweb.org/ which is an automated central archive for all BtVS and Angel fanfiction, and can be searched by pairing.

****************************

8. Is there a list of beta readers available? Can I ask for a beta reader, on list?

Please DO NOT post requests for betas on SXANDV. There is a Spike/Xander writing and criticism list called sxcrit (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sxcrit) where you can discuss writing issues and are welcome to ask for interested beta readers.

****************************

9. What happens if I post something I'm not supposed to?

Anyone posting something that is not allowed on SXANDV will receive, for the first offense, a warning. For the second similar offense, you will be unsubscribed. All other infractions of the rules will result in warnings for the first and second offense, and for the third, you will be unsubscribed.

EXCEPTION: Abuse of the "warning for first offense" rule to post blatant spam will not be tolerated. If you post what the moderators deem to be true spam -- such as an advertisement for something that isn't even slash or fandom-related -- you may be removed and banned from the list, without a warning. If you are recognized as a regular poster who has never posted such things before, you may be placed on moderated status and contacted to determine what happened, but this is not guaranteed. If there has been a mistake, or your computer has been attacked by an e-mail virus, etc., you are welcome to e-mail the moderators at sxandv-owner@yahoogroups.com, requesting to re-join the list.

Any time something off-topic or inappropriate has been posted to the list, a reminder will also be posted to the list itself, to let users know that such items aren't allowed, with a link to the FAQ. This isn't done to pick on the person who posted the off-topic message and already received a private warning; it's done so that other users will recognise which messages are off-topic, and not post similar ones.

If you post something which is not allowed, and you indicate in said post that you don't care whether it is not allowed, or that you know it is not allowed and are posting anyway, you will be placed on moderated status. For the second offense, you will be unsubscribed.
